Socrates

We have just returned from Chrani and dined at Socrates Taverna a number of times during our stay. The fish is first class, my husband had the red snapper and sea bass on different evenings- both beautifully cooked and delicious. On Tuesday 8th we had our final meal, we both had the Garides Sagnaki- absolutely gorgeous and the best starter we have had, anywhere . My main was the Hirini pork steak with homemade chips and a spicy tomato dip, hubby had the lamb chops with homemade chips and greens - both cooked to perfection . We received a complimentary pudding on our visits, on Tuesday it was strawberry meringue- divine . Service is excellent, a young man looked after us very well and was so friendly and welcoming, a young woman was very busy in the kitchen and again was so friendly waving us off at the end. Socrates is our favourite taverna, it has beautiful food, sea views, excellent service and all at a reasonable price- we have already booked our trip for 2025 and will be visiting multiple times then

What an amazing place. Great food. Great service. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. This is a must to visit again and again. If you’re in this part of Kalamata, you HAVE to visit Socrates. We didn’t end up taking photos of everything we ordered because we started devouring it as soon as it arrived. Keep up the fantastic work team. Μπράβο σας

After reading the reviews, we decided to try Socrates. The waiter was very friendly, and we ended up ordering almost everything he recommended—which turned out to be a great choice! But be warned: you may get addicted! And please don’t miss the tomato salad We were treated to a small dessert on the house and even got some helpful tips on where to go next. For delicious food and kind, friendly service, I definitely recommend Socrates.

Very good food, the Socrates family and staff are really friendly and welcoming. We came here twice in June and again twice this September. We will absolutely be back at Socrates if we visit Chrani again. Definitely recommend.

We visited Socrates restaurant in Chrani. We ordered chicken souvlaki, shrimp pasta, a portion of 6 grilled shrimps, fried cheese with jam, and also added fresh mussels. The grilled shrimps were delicious — juicy, smoky, and full of flavor. Served with fresh salad and a nicely seasoned dipping sauce, everything was well balanced. The shrimp pasta was a favorite with the kids — rich tomato sauce and great flavor. The shrimps had no heads but still had tails, which was a bit inconvenient for the kids. Otherwise, it was tasty and filling. The chicken souvlaki was amazing — juicy, tender meat with a light sweet note. The lemon-mustard sauce was a perfect match for both the meat and the potatoes. The fried cheese with jam was a highlight for the kids — crispy outside, soft and melty inside. They loved it so much they asked for a second portion. The mix of salty cheese and sweet jam worked perfectly. We also tried fresh mussels — served with dill, onion, and lemon. It was an unusual but very tasty combination. The mussels were a masterpiece, one of the best dishes of the evening. Good service and a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended! Update: We visited the restaurant again — and once more, all the food was incredibly delicious. The mussels were especially outstanding: fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. It’s great to see the quality remains so high.

Very nice tavern serving a variety of seafood dishes and fresh fish. We tried the calamari, the octopus the mussels and the tuna tataki. They were all delicious.

The setting is relaxed and friendly—dining here feels both authentic and elevated. Portions are generous and reasonably priced, the service warm and attentive. Highly recommend for seafood lovers and anyone seeking a Greek meal with character. Personal favorites: Calamari Souvlaki — smoky, grilled to perfection. Tuna Tartare — light, fresh, and subtly seasoned. Talagani cheese — beautifully melty and locally sourced.
